What it is: What percentage of your bookable inventory is actually generating revenue on peak days.
Why it matters: A bounce house sitting in the warehouse every other Saturday is not a neutral event — it has carrying cost, insurance cost, and opportunity cost. Utilization tells you whether you have a supply problem (need more units) or a demand problem (need more bookings to fill what you have).
How to calculate it:
```
Utilization rate = (Units booked on peak days) ÷ (Total bookable units) × 100
```
Run this calculation specifically for your top 3–5 weekends of the season, not across the whole year. Annual utilization averages out the problem — you need to know whether you are hitting capacity on your highest-demand days.
The benchmarks:
- Below 60% utilization on peak Saturdays → demand problem. Marketing and pricing work before buying more inventory.
- 60–80% → healthy range. Maintain and optimize.
- Above 85% consistently → you are leaving money on the table and losing bookings due to unavailability. Time to expand.
What GRS shows you: The inventory availability calendar surfaces utilization day by day, unit by unit. Operators who review it weekly catch demand patterns before the season instead of discovering them afterward.
